Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the registered non-profit organization

Barend La Grange is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the registered non-profit organization, South Africa Day. An initiative to promote nation-building and a better future. The aim is to inspire all people of the country to participate in building a better South Africa and creating new optimism for the future of the country. This initiative creates the platform for citizens, business, and government to work together to achieve these goals.

Barend served as Deputy CEO of CPG SA (Citizens in Partnership with Government) from 2012 to 2017 and also served on the board of this non-governmental organization that formed a platform between government and citizens to help create a better future for everyone in the country.

He represented CPG SA on the Committee of Human Rights (Vulnerable Groups), on combating racism and xenophobia.

Barend was born in the Cape, matriculated in 1971 to HHS Tygerberg, and later obtained his CFP qualification.

His career began at the Department of Finance and subsequently joined the La Grange family business. After that he joined Sanlam. He was also the first member of the company to serve on the panel of the then Economic Program, “Diagonal Street” on TV1.

In 2001, after 26 years of employment, he left Sanlam as Head of Consultants and Actuaries of the Employee Benefits Division of the Northern Provinces of Sanlam. He then established his own Risk Management Company (LG Risk Management), which he sold to PSG in 2007.

Barend has been traveling through Africa for the last 17 years, using only public transport. A few years ago he and Foeta Krige, former RSG Monitor and Spectrum Director, travelled through 14 countries; from the most southern to the most northern points in Africa. (from Cape Agulhas to Ras ben Sakka in Tunisia). This first-rate practical experience allows him to better understand the people of Africa and their diversities.

He has been married to Annalene for 45 years and has 2 sons, 5 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter.
